The “Void” series began as a reaction to a series of losses I experienced two years ago at this point. I wanted to convey the idea of a presence in absence and that despite the loss of a person their existence lives on through the memories of those left behind. These drawings depict people, animals, and objects in silhouette with their presence delineated only by the patterning surrounding them. This series was also incorporated into two collaborative projects in which I illustrated the short stories of two Hawaiʻi-based authors.
