Shadow Drawing

Shadow Drawing

By placing a piece of paper up to the edge of or on the ground before an object its shadow can be traced and recorded.  Along with a bit of shading and some notes on where the darkest areas are, subtle tones, etc. the shadow is imprinted on the paper.  What results is a bizarre, blurry landscape that is neither from my imagination nor from reality; a scene that existed in an everyday shadow that remained for only a few seconds.

People often take rubbings of surfaces they want to remember, a trace of places and events embedded in a piece of paper.  The rubbings and drawings here, taken from my childhood surroundings, allow me to evoke and reexamine memories through the memories of the surfaces themselves.
